To use Tap to Pay on iPhone, simply call us to sign up with a merchant account, download the Payanywhere app, and start accepting in-person, contactless payments anytime, anywhere — right on your iPhone.

Secure & private transactions

Tap to Pay on iPhone uses the built-in features of the iPhone to keep your business and your customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, Apple does not store card numbers on the device or Apple servers, so you can rest assured knowing your business stays yours.

How it works

  • Launch the app

    Once you’ve signed up for a merchant account with us, launch the Payanywhere app, and enter an amount or add items to the sale.

  • Enable Tap to Pay

    Select Tap to Pay on iPhone from the available payment methods.

  • Present your iPhone to the customer

    For card payments, your customer holds their card horizontally at the top of your iPhone, over the contactless symbol.

    For Apple Pay and other digital wallet payments, your customer holds their device over the top of your iPhone, over the contactless symbol.

  • Sale Complete

    When you see the “done” checkmark, the transaction is complete.

FAQs

  • Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later.

  • With Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can accept any form of contactless payment, including Apple Pay on iPhone and Apple Watch, other digital wallet and payment services, and contactless debit and credit cards. Ask your payment service provider to confirm the contactless card brands you can accept with Tap to Pay on iPhone.

  • Tap to Pay on iPhone allows payment service providers to enable PIN-based transactions in iOS 16.0 and later.

    After the customer taps their card, Tap to Pay on iPhone prompts the customer to enter their PIN using Apple's secure PIN entry interface.

    Ask your payment service provider if they support PIN-based transactions in your payment application

  • You can turn on the Tap to Pay Screen Lock setting for your payment app to lock your device screen during PIN entry. After the customer completes or cancels their PIN entry, unlock the device to continue the transaction.

    On your iPhone, go to Settings > Payanywhere app, then turn on Tap to Pay Screen Lock.
